How to Select a Smart Digital-Display Vortex Flow Meter?

How should a smart digital-display vortex flow meter be selected? The key is to evaluate the medium, flow range, pressure, temperature, pipe size, installation conditions and output signals rather than focusing only on the digital display function. For steam, compressed air, nitrogen, natural gas and other gases or steam, a smart digital-display vortex flow meter combines flow measurement, signal processing and local data display. USA VTON smart digital-display vortex flow meters can be considered according to actual operating conditions.

1. Select the meter according to medium and flow range

Vortex flow meters use the Kármán vortex principle and can be used for various gases, steam and liquids. The first step is to identify the medium and provide minimum, normal and maximum flow rates.

For steam measurement, determine whether the application involves saturated or superheated steam and provide operating pressure and temperature. For compressed air, nitrogen and natural gas, actual operating pressure and temperature should also be considered.

If mass flow or standard-condition flow is required, pressure and temperature compensation or calculation functions may need to be evaluated.

2. Match the digital display with field requirements

The digital display mainly provides convenient local data viewing, while intelligent functions may involve signal processing, parameter configuration, calculation and output management.

Operators can view instantaneous flow, totalized flow and other configured process parameters locally. If the instrument needs to connect to an automation system, the required output and communication interface should also be confirmed.

For meters installed at elevated positions or far from the control cabinet, local digital indication can make routine inspection more convenient.

3. Consider process and installation conditions

Selection should also consider ambient temperature, humidity, vibration and electrical conditions. For high-temperature steam applications, the allowable operating temperature and installation position should be checked carefully.

Upstream elbows, tees and valves may affect the flow profile, so appropriate straight-pipe conditions should be arranged according to the instrument requirements.

In one industrial steam application, operators needed to monitor instantaneous and totalized steam flow directly in the field. A smart digital-display vortex flow meter was selected after checking steam pressure, temperature, minimum/normal/maximum flow, pipe size and output requirements.

Therefore, selection can follow the sequence of medium → flow → pressure → temperature → pipe size → installation → display → output. USA VTON can be considered according to the actual application.
