How to Select an Electric On-Off Ball Valve?

An electric on-off ball valve is mainly used to control the opening and closing of pipeline media. The electric actuator drives the ball valve to fully open or fully close the flow path. Selection should not be based only on nominal pipe size. Media properties, pressure, temperature, valve material, sealing design, operating torque, power supply, and control requirements should all be considered. USA VTON electric on-off ball valves can be configured according to actual operating conditions to provide automated pipeline shut-off control.

1. Determine the Ball Valve Parameters First

Start by confirming nominal diameter, connection type, and pressure rating. The type of medium must also be clearly identified. Water, gases, oils, and corrosive industrial media may require different valve body and sealing materials.

For high-temperature media, the applicable temperature range of the valve body, seat, and sealing materials should be checked. For corrosive media, compatibility between wetted materials and the process medium is particularly important. USA VTON can configure the valve according to medium characteristics, temperature, pressure, and pipeline conditions.

2. Match the Electric Actuator

The key to an electric on-off ball valve is proper torque matching between the actuator and the ball valve. During operation, the valve may need to overcome seat friction, process pressure, and resistance generated during opening and closing. Therefore, actuator selection should not be based simply on DN.

The actual valve operating torque, working pressure, medium temperature, and operating frequency should be considered. The power supply must also be confirmed, such as AC220V or AC380V, together with requirements for open/close feedback, position feedback, and remote control.

3. Confirm Control and Installation Requirements

If the valve only needs fully open and fully closed operation, an on-off actuator can be used. If continuous valve-position adjustment is required, a modulating electric actuator should instead be considered. The control logic of these two actuator types is different.

During installation, the valve and pipeline should remain properly aligned, and excessive external pipeline stress should be avoided. Sufficient space should also be reserved for actuator installation and maintenance. Protection requirements, ambient temperature, and electrical conditions should be considered for the final configuration.

At an industrial pipeline project, the electric on-off ball valve can first be selected according to the medium, pipe size, and pressure. The electric actuator can then be matched according to the required valve torque, followed by confirmation of the power supply and remote feedback requirements. This process helps reduce risks caused by mismatched specifications.

Selection suggestion: When specifying an electric on-off ball valve, prepare the medium name, pipe size, pressure, temperature, power supply, connection type, and remote-control requirements. USA VTON can then use these operating parameters to determine an appropriate valve and actuator configuration.
