The key installation factors for an integrated vortex flow meter include flow direction, straight pipe sections, pipeline alignment, vibration, installation location, and environmental conditions. USA VTON integrated vortex flow meters should also be checked for sealing, power supply, display, and output signals after installation.
1. Confirm Flow Direction and Pipeline Conditions
Before installation, check the flow-direction marking on the meter and ensure that the actual process flow follows the specified direction.
The pipe size and meter connection dimensions should also be checked. Avoid forced installation. The pipeline should be reasonably aligned to prevent unnecessary mechanical stress.
For new pipelines, adequate maintenance space should be reserved. For retrofit projects, available installation dimensions should be confirmed in advance.

2. Provide Appropriate Upstream and Downstream Straight Pipe Sections
Vortex flow meters are sensitive to flow conditions. The meter should therefore be positioned away from strong disturbances such as elbows, tees, valves, and reducers where possible.
The actual straight-pipe requirement should be determined according to meter construction, pipe size, and piping layout rather than applying one fixed value to every installation.
Strong vibration should also be avoided. For steam pipelines, condensate, pipe slope, and insulation should be considered. For gas pipelines, pulsating flow and upstream equipment should also be evaluated.
3. Check Display and Output Signals After Installation
After mechanical installation, check the connection and verify that the power supply meets the instrument requirements.
After power-up, observe the local display and check the reading once the process flow becomes stable. If 4–20 mA, pulse, or communication outputs are configured, verify that the output corresponds to the local indication.
For PLC or DCS applications, confirm that the control system receives the flow data correctly.
Application Example
At a certain industrial steam pipeline, an integrated vortex flow meter was installed for flow monitoring. The installation location was selected according to the piping layout, with appropriate straight pipe and maintenance space reserved. After installation, flow direction, connections, power supply, and output signals were checked before observing the measurement under stable steam conditions.
Installation Advice
Installation should not focus only on whether the meter can physically be connected. Flow stability, straight pipe arrangement, vibration, and the environment surrounding the electronics should also be considered. For high-temperature steam, insulation, condensate, and maintenance access deserve particular attention.
