How to Select an Electric PTFE-Lined Ball Valve?

An electric PTFE-lined ball valve is mainly used for corrosive liquid and gas pipelines, with an electric actuator driving the lined ball valve for automated opening and closing. Selection should not focus only on the fact that the valve is PTFE-lined. Medium type, concentration, temperature, pressure, flow rate, valve size, lining material, and actuator torque should all be considered. USA VTON electric PTFE-lined ball valves can be configured according to corrosive media and automation requirements.

1. Confirm the Corrosive Medium

Corrosion-resistant valve selection should begin with the medium name, concentration, temperature, and whether particles are present. Acids, alkalis, salt solutions, and other chemical media can have different corrosion characteristics. Even the same medium may have different material compatibility at different concentrations and temperatures.

Therefore, complete medium information should be provided rather than simply describing the process as an “acidic liquid” or “corrosive liquid.”

USA VTON can evaluate the applicable range of valve body, lining, seat, and sealing materials according to the actual medium conditions.

2. Why Is a Lined Ball Valve Suitable for Corrosive Media?

A lined ball valve uses a chemically resistant fluoropolymer lining or related structure in areas exposed to the process medium, creating a protective separation between the medium and the underlying valve-body material.

Rotating the ball changes the flow path, while the electric actuator enables automated operation. This allows corrosion-resistant valve construction to be combined with remote and automated control.

However, a lining should not be assumed to be suitable for every medium, concentration, and temperature. Material compatibility must be verified according to the actual application.

3. How Should the Electric Actuator Be Matched?

After confirming valve size and lining configuration, the electric actuator should be selected according to the actual valve operating torque. Process pressure, sealing friction, operating temperature, and operating frequency should also be considered.

Power supply, control method, and feedback requirements should be confirmed as well. For remote on-off operation, an appropriate on-off control configuration can be used. If continuous position adjustment is required, a modulating configuration should be considered.

At a chemical-media pipeline, an electric PTFE-lined ball valve can first be specified according to medium name, concentration, temperature, and pressure. Valve size and connection type can then be determined, followed by actuator torque matching and confirmation of control and feedback requirements.

Selection suggestion: For corrosive media, provide the medium name, concentration, temperature, pressure, flow rate, pipe size, and control requirements together. USA VTON can then perform material and actuator matching based on the complete operating conditions.
